Shared resources and shared responsibility
Our Story
Floq originated as a Meetup group, started in 2021, but evolved to solve two main issues I kept hearing as a community organizer.
1) We can’t find each other as queer women
AND
2) We don’t have spaces.
As a former financial advisor working with queer women, I’ve seen first hand the obstacles our community faces, and I believe more money in our pockets and more working together can help us achieve upward mobility.
Our chat platform solves the problem of finding each other and provides a myriad of ways to share resources: from a professional networking section so we can hire each other and keep the money in the community, to a buy nothing and barter and trade section, to a partnership with a local group that provides discounts at 60+ neighborhood businesses.
And the membership dues collected solve the problem of having a space. The money is used to pay rent on our versatile Venice clubhouse, which all members can use. By all of us taking on and spreading out the responsibility of solving these issues together, we can make this not only affordable, but sustainable.
While we originated in West LA, floq is currently for all of LA and expanding into other cities later this year.
